Harvest, by early favourite Jim Crace tops the shortlist for the Booker Prize announced overnight in London. Also on the list are A Tale for the Time Being by Ruth Ozeki, We Need New Names by NoViolet Bulawayo, The Luminaries by Eleanor Catton, The Lowland by Jhumpa Lahiri and The Testament of Mary by Colm Toibin.
For lovers of trivia The Testament of Mary is the shortest book ever to make the shortlist at 101 pages and Eleanor Catton is the youngest author at 28. Also, this is the first time an author from Zimbabwe, NoViolet Bulawayo, has made it on the list. Biggest surprise for me was the exclusion of Colum McCann’s wonderful TransAtlantic.
